Using Naviswoks to simulate construction using 4BUILD data

4BUILD tool for monitoring building investment projects allows you to export data to different file formats. This is the key to integrating work with various IT tools, which are an integral part of the processes of any information-supported project. Good project management is difficult to achieve without quality pre-preparation. Due to the large amount of data and information it can no longer be achieved in a classic way – with pencil and paper.

The data, which are created when an inventory and bids each estimate, containing normative technological background. It is therefore sensible and advisable to use it in other tools. System integration brings a great deal of time savings in designing and monitoring and providing basic data. Without data, all IT tools are just shells that we cannot help much. The data of 4BUILD can be expanded using the MS Project and Autodesk Navisworks and the 3D model of the object. For the most demanding projects, we can quickly and efficiently prepare the simulation of the project implementation. We will see, in what time and with what costs the ultimate goal of successful implementation of the task will be achieved.


An area that in recent years no modern solutions can ignore is the BIM technology. The connectivity of all stakeholders throughout the life cycle of the project on a single project model is a motto that we also follow in Hermes. With the 4BUILD BIM software add-on, we can upgrade the designer’s usual three-dimensional working environment with a normative costing background, adding the fourth (time) and fifth dimension (money) to the project. This result is guaranteed without significantly increased workload for the designer. An expanded set of attributes of standard elements, which is usually operated by a designer, also contains some key information about the technological background of the element. Intelligent and self-learning algorithm for identifying designer elements in 4BUILD program, from these elements to a quick and easy way, prepares a list of censuses and equips them with a technological background. In this way, we get both the cost of the project and the estimation of the consumption of individual resources (work, material), both quantitatively and in value.


3D modelers are increasingly gaining ground in designing and designing buildings in the field of high and low construction and are indispensable when switching from 2D design to the BIM building construction environment. The tools are primarily intended for designers in the modeling and preparation of basic data of the predicted elements that will be used during the construction itself. The key to using and upgrading data into useful information with other software solutions is the standardized form of data export from 3D modelers. It is currently the most well-established IFC standard.

In order to effectively manage the construction economics, it is necessary to use other specialized tools for in-depth analytical data processing. The choice needs to be adapted to the design of the tool and above all to the type and goals of the users.


In order to carry out projects in the foreseen time, it is necessary to work in depth with tools for planning assets and scheduling individual activities. All basic planning functions are already included in the 4BUILD program in the Standard and the Projections packages. All planning data, prepared with the functionality of the 4BUILD (Tasks, Resources, Assignments) tool, can be exported to MS Project. This allows you to continue working on planning, designing various reviews and reports to even more demanding users who would also like to use the more complex functionalities that MS Project offers. A file in the CSV format or the basic MS Project document can be a source of data for preparing time simulation activities in NavisWorks.


The object model consists of data created in other tools. It contains the data of the timetable and the information model of the object.

When preparing a timetable, we take into account the complexity of the object and the need for depth of view. The plan can be synthesized, where the same type of elements are grouped under one activity. It can also be prepared in detail with an analytical view for each element individually. The result of this is a more detailed preparation of the simulation of the construction timetable in Navisworks.
